Our Mission

Our mission is to help improve the health and well-being of the Huilloc community in Peru while providing a life-changing opportunity for college students and volunteers thru hands-on experiences.

How

Focus efforts on the key health care drivers – Patient Care, Prevention and Access

Patient CareConduct annual volunteer pop-up medical and dental clinic while moving towards ongoing in-community care, diagnosis and referral.

Prevention – Provide ongoing training and wellness education, dental care, and nutrition support. In the future look to support other prevention tactics including screening and exercise.

Access – Remove access barriers to broader health services – adult literacy, transportation, paperwork, economics and nutrition.

What

A collaboration of healthcare professionals, college students and volunteers seeking a life-changing opportunity thru a hands-on experience in Peru.

A listen-first approach to the community through its leaders and community liaisons.

Focus on access, preventive care and acute care today with a longer-term vision of addressing the overall community’s health and well-being through a broader public health approach.

Address the barriers to care in the Huilloc community such as literacy, access, facilities, cultural beliefs, nutrition and economics.

Principles

We work to understand Huilloc community needs thru the guidance of community elders/leaders in regular meetings and through engagement of a Community Coordinator and three Community Liaisons who work directly with the village on a daily basis.

We look to implement next ring initiatives and programs that the Huilloc community can use to become more self-sustaining in managing their own care and well-being.

Establish partnerships with allied organizations to deepen impact with the community:

  • Partner with St. Olaf and other local colleges to give students an opportunity to learn about broader health issues and gain a life-changing experience in their field of study

  • Partner with Health Bridges International and other NGOs to deliver an optimal and balanced care and support model

  • Partner with other organizations in Peru to aid in logistics and implementation of our efforts

Establish key performance indicators via EMR and an ongoing village public health and well-bing assessment
